Hans Sachetti: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder....hadd is not used

Abraham Ladick: attention deficeincy disorder

Veta Slicker: AD/HD means attention defict hyperactivty disorder. It isn't just commonly found in children. If a child has it is a condition they have for the rest of their life. Their symptoms can be treated and controlled through behavior modification and or medication. An adults symptoms are a lot different than a childs.

Ardath Templer: Actually it's either ADHD or ADD ... Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder or Attention Deficit Disorder without the hyperactive component. It's a condition that a child is born with, probably passed on genetically, and it involves the chemicals in the brain that receive and process information. A person with ADHD is easily distracted, has difficulty focusing attention without other sounds or visual stimuli drawing him away.! The hyperactive part means an extremely high energy level, constant movement, sometimes constant talking or touching things. There was a theory at one time that food allergies caused ADHD but most research shows that a child has ADHD from birth. True ADHD or ADD is not caused by a lack of discipline or poor parenting or a bad social environment, but structure and routines and a strong support system are key in managing the disorder. There are medications that can help focus the child's attention, but they're not for everyone and each child's case should be researched thoroughly before treatment decisions are made. ADHD / ADD is not a learning disorder, and the range of intelligence in people with ADHD / ADD is the same as with the rest of the population. Some children with ADHD or ADD outgrow the condition, but it can continue through adulthood, and there are those who aren't diagnosed until they're adults. There is also a range of severity, from manageable to ooooo! hhhhh-soooo-frustrating.Hope this all helps. There is a reall! y good book called "Taking Charge of ADHD" by Russell A. Barkley if you're trying to learn more....Show more
