Long Woltjer: Primary health care is the latest definition of public health care per the World Health Organization, which is composed of 4 parts: 1) Equitable distribution2) Community participation3) Intersectoral coordination 4) TechnologyPrimary health care was a new approach to health care that came into existence following an international conference in Alma Ata in 1978 organised by the World Health Organisation and the UNICEF. The Alma Ata conference defined primary health care as follows:"Primary health care is essential health care based on practical, scientifically sound and socially acceptable methods and technology made universally accessible to individuals and families in the community through their full participation and at a cost that the community and the country can afford to mainta! in at every stage of their development in the spirit of self-determination".Community health which is the same as public health ("public health" is concerned with threats to the overall health of a community based on population health analysis) is a discipline that concerns itself with the study and betterment of the health characteristics of communities. While the term community can be broadly defined, community health tends to focus on geographic areas rather than people with shared characteristics...The World Health Organization, the United Nations body that sets standards and provides global surveillance of disease, defined health in 1948 as: "A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
