What makes a good landscaping/nature camera?

Eli Trapeni: In short, the lens.Any camera can take landscape photos, the lens determines the field of view. We could write a book on camera terms and it would take a while to explain things if you don't know what they are. Using wikipedia and photography sites for the "camera words" will give you some ideas and fill in the gaps.As for choosing a camera, first you've got to consider a budget and what you want pictures of. A compact camera will be cheaper than a DSLR camera but many have a wider zoom range. The expense with DSLR cameras comes with the number of lenses you may need. Landscapes usually means wide angle lenses. Nature? If it's photos of birds and distant animals you'll need a long telephoto lens. So 2 totally different lenses already. If you want photos of people and more general photos you'll need another lens. You may want zoom lenses. There are quite a number of possibilities....Show more

Tory Clapper: If you are looking for a DSLR camera ! than you can go for a wide angle lens otherwise with point and shoot cameras you can consider any camera with good optical zoom.

Gilberto Cratin: For landscape photos, you are in good luck! Most cameras are capable of taking nice landscape photos as landscapes are shot with f/8 to f/22 to keep most things in focus. With smaller sensors and tiny lens, most compact cameras by nature keep things in focus!!You really don't need expensive cameras for landscapes. Actually SLRs will be a burden to carry, expensive to buy and change lenses for wide angle to zoom, and frustration to keep most things in focus all the time!!! I would advise to go with Panasonic FZ-150. The LUMIX DMC-FZ150 is fully equipped with * a 25mm ultra wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens which is an excellent lens and can help you take ultra wide landscapes. On an SLR, you would have to keep changing lenses for ultra wide photos!* It has a powerful 24x Optical Zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 25-600mm) av! ailable for shooting both stills and videos. This way you can ! zoom in if you want to capture far distant objects.* Additionally, the LUMIX FZ150 has two of Panasonic's newest features â€" newly advanced Nano Surface Coating technology which helps minimize light reflection that causes ghost and flare â€" and the new 3D Photo Mode. * The leica lens is very nice on this series of cameras...Show more
